kilnforming and engraving

My making process is additive, then subtractive.
I first create glass panels through assembly and firing in a kiln; kilnforming. I construct three layers of single ply glass, with an intentional design and color interaction built into the piece. This assembly is fired in a kiln to create one solid “blank” panel.
Then through the process of engraving, I use diamond wheels to carve into the glass surface. I manipulate the surface to reveal tones and textures.
Engraving is slow, deliberate and labor intensive. My focus is the discovery and details revealed as I carve through the surface.
My artwork, images and form, emerges as I remove layers of glass. I love carving through the surface; revealing what is beneath.
